Egypt squad for the African Cup of Nations

Egyptian national team coach Hossam Hassan explained the list of 28 players called up for the upcoming African Cup of Nations. The list includes the world’s biggest stars, such as Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed, as well as a large number of players playing in national competitions. A total of 22 players were selected to represent Egyptian clubs, this clearly emphasizes the local character of the teams in this tournament.

Although the roster includes many famous players from the European field, the core of the team consists of players from Al-Ahly, Zamalek, Pyramids FC and Al-Masry. In attack we will also see Mostafa Mohamed from Nantes, one of the most effective strikers in the national team in recent years.

The training camp will start on December 3, and one of the important points of preparation will be a friendly match with the Nigerian national team, scheduled in Cairo on December 14. It is during these matches that the coaching staff will have the opportunity to check the players’ performance and test the setup before the tournament begins.

The voter can still make changes to the squad – according to regulations, he has until December 11 to submit the final list.

Egypt – the most successful team in the history of the tournament

The Egyptian national team entered the championship as the most successful team in the history of the African Cup of Nations. The Pharaohs won this competition seven times, but the last edition brought them great disappointment. The team was eliminated in the 1/8 finals, losing after a series of penalty shootouts to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

This year’s tournament will take place in Morocco and run from December 21 to January 18. Egypt were placed in Group B, where they will face Zimbabwe, South Africa and Angola. For Hassan’s team, this will be a chance to return to the elite after a failed last tournament.

It should be added that, along with preparations for the African Cup of Nations, Egypt is also taking part in the FIFA Arab Cup in Qatar (1-18 December). This competition features famous players from European competitions – such as former Arsenal player, Mohamed Elneny.
